I’ve worked with 1000s of salespeople over time. Guess what most have in common?
A poor follow-up game.
Most give up way too early.
Most put leads into the “not interested” bucket way too soon.
Theres are tonnes of stats to back this (here’s a quick summary).
But, the TLDR?
The $$ is in the follow-up.
It’s not about being pushy
It’s not about being salesy.
It’s about adding value at each touch point.
Fail to do so & you’ll be ignored.
So, what’s the best way to follow up (without being salesy)?
Here are a few templates to get the creativity flowing.
But first, let’s get some of the ground rules out of the way
GENERAL PRINCIPLES FOR SALES FOLLOW-UPS
- Avoid “any updates?”, “just checking in”, “are we there yet” emails – these add no value & come off as salesy
- Add value at each touchpoint – educate/help the prospect
- Share custom insights – avoid spray & pray approaches
- Tie insights back to paint points/challenges during the discovery call
- Follow up leads every 3 days till you qualify them in/out/turn into an opp
- Follow-up deals every 7 days till you win/mark as lost

Remember, winning in sales is all about the quality & frequency of follow ups.
On average, thats 11-15 follow-ups before you convert a lead.
So, be patient – don’t throw in the towel too soon.
Till then, add value consistently.
Be genuine, be helpful – the sale will come.
